Probably because they were offered at the same price as the full-scale models, the 22.5" scale Duo-Sonic IIs and Musicmaster IIs were discontinued ca. 1967. The long-scale Duo-Sonic II was completely discontinued as well. After the old supply of decals was used up, the long-scale Musicmaster II was renamed the Music Master (two words). This name appeared on headstocks from about mid-1968 to late 1976, next to the CBS Fender logo (in black script).
Aside from the name change, the new Music Masters were virtually identical to the 24" scale Musicmaster IIs. At some point during this era, Music Master bodies were no longer factory-routed for a bridge pickup (since the Duo-Sonic had been discontinued). Perhaps the most noticeable difference was the switch from Kluson Deluxe to Fender-made "F" tuning machines, which had been standard on Mustangs since late '65/early '66. By late '75/early '76, the tuning machine buttons were changed from white plastic to chrome. Standard finishes were again red, white, and blue, with black finishes (and black pickguards) appearing toward the end of this period.
